Surry Hills, St Sophia Greek Orthodox Church

St Sophia Greek Orthodox Church is located along Bourke Street, in the inner city suburb of Surry Hills. This heritage listed church was originally built as a Congregational Church known as St Sophia and Her Three Daughters. It was designed by William Boles and built in 1880 in the Victorian Gothic style.

  2. I agree with Lisa - it does look rather modern. I tend to think of much more fussy facades at the time this was built. So glad you shared it with us at https://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2024/12/donegal-town.html

  3. St Sophia Greek Orthodox Church sounds like a fascinating landmark in Surry Hills. Its rich history, beginning as a Congregational Church known as St Sophia and Her Three Daughters, adds a layer of cultural and architectural significance to the area. The fact that it was designed by William Boles and built in 1880 in the Victorian Gothic style makes it a remarkable piece of heritage
