These bay windows are part of the Macquarie Lodge retirement village apartments, along Fairview Street in the southern suburb of Arncliffe. They were on the grounds of heritage-listed property known as Dappeto, built in 1885. The Salvation Army purchased the property in 1917 and operated a children's home here until 1969. In 1971 they built a nursing home surrounded by a retirement village. There are plans now to demolish and replace it with a new apartment building.

Why destroy a successful, attractive building?
ReplyDeleteApparently it doesn't meet current fire safety standards so it will be replaced with a building that does.
Deletethanks.
ReplyDeleteI can see why it will be replaced. Us old folks don't move as fast as when we were young.
