Rockdale, police station

This former police station is located in King Street, in the southern suburb of Rockdale. It was built in 1895 as a court and watch house and expanded in 1914. It was built in the Federation bungalow architectural style. Since the police station closed there had been plans to redevelop the site for yet another apartment block but local residents have managed to have preservation order placed on the building for now to eventually have it heritage listed.

  2. A court, watch house and police station should be scary places, to shock the criminals into behaving well. This building looks way too domestic, Edwardian and not at all scary :)

    1. I think you're right, Hels. It really blended in well with the residential streetscape and didn't look too intimidating at all.

  4. I have to admit it doesn't look intimidating at all, it's quite a lovely building. Hopefully they'll find a good use for it and preserve it as well! Great shot for the day, Jim.

  6. I'm all for saving old buildings, expecially one that looks as sturdy and well-built as that one.
