This auto electrician workshop sits on the corner of the Princes Highway and Canal Road in the inner west suburb of St Peters. This building was originally a service station, typical of a few built in the area in the inter-war period, in the Spanish Mission-style. The stucco walls are not textured and while it might have had Spanish terracotta-style roof tiles originally, it now has roof tiles from a more modern era. Interestingly, this building was on the heritage register but has recently been removed.
It's sad when seeing a heritage building turn into a modern one... Same thing happen here.
ReplyDeleteI rather like this building J. Too sad is not protected anymore.
ReplyDeleteWonder why it came off the heritage list Jim?
ReplyDeleteThat is very interesting ^_^
ReplyDeletePerhaps it's been removed because it is no longer in it's original style!?
ReplyDeleteSad...does this mean it can now be torn down if someone wants it out of the way for something new?
What a great workshop, style and functionality. The heritage register? Is that the councils?
ReplyDeleteTheanne and Baron, I think you may be right about it having been altered too much so it is no longer worth protecting. Sadly this does mean that it can be torn down now.
ReplyDeletePeter, it was the council that requested it be taken off the register so it may be because someone is planning a redevelopment in this area.
Interesting building and it is sad that it's been taken off the heritage list! Hope you have a great week, Jim!

Feels like way back in time indeed. May time and life treat it please kind.

Old garages do make for interesting photographs.
ReplyDeleteWhat a classic, obviously if it is off the register it's coming down for units of a shop.
ReplyDeleteHow unusual to have 4 panels ip to the roof.
ReplyDeleteReally nice looking structure!
ReplyDeleteI also wonder why it came off the heritage list. Interesting building nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteCool building.
ReplyDeleteMy OWT is up too.
Happy New Year from New Zealand.
Great shot.

It certainly has character.
ReplyDeleteInteresting building :)
ReplyDeleteI think just for the triple facades it should have remained on the register.
ReplyDeleteNice shot.
It's a pity, Jim!
ReplyDeleteNew Year greetings from Holland,
Anna :-))
Please come on over to RUBY TUESDAY 2 and leave your link!
ReplyDeleteIt's a cool building.
ReplyDeleteMoms...Check Nyo
It's got great lines, too bad all the paint drowns them out.

I have a folder with an increasing number of old garages (mechanics) in the eastern suburbs. They are all like this one is now; few redeeming architectural qualities. Just make interesting images.
ReplyDeleteNice Looking building, shame about the roof tiles and the fact it has lost its registration, I hope it cant be demolished or changed to radicly. Happy New Year from Margate in Kent England. X Don
ReplyDeleteGreat shot! Seems weird for such an old historical building to be used for such a business .
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year !
Very interesting building.
