St Peters, workshop
This auto electrician workshop sits on the corner of the Princes Highway and Canal Road in the inner west suburb of St Peters. This building was originally a service station, typical of a few built in the area in the inter-war period, in the Spanish Mission-style. The stucco walls are not textured and while it might have had Spanish terracotta-style roof tiles originally, it now has roof tiles from a more modern era. Interestingly, this building was on the heritage register but has recently been removed.
It's sad when seeing a heritage building turn into a modern one... Same thing happen here.

What a great workshop, style and functionality. The heritage register? Is that the councils?
ReplyDeleteTheanne and Baron, I think you may be right about it having been altered too much so it is no longer worth protecting. Sadly this does mean that it can be torn down now.
ReplyDeletePeter, it was the council that requested it be taken off the register so it may be because someone is planning a redevelopment in this area.

I have a folder with an increasing number of old garages (mechanics) in the eastern suburbs. They are all like this one is now; few redeeming architectural qualities. Just make interesting images.
