Hyde Park, Snailovation

This giant yellow snail sculpture is currently located in Hyde Park. Snailovation are brightly coloured snails that were created by the Cracking Art Group. They have been installed on city streets and in parks as part of Art and About Sydney, a festival of art in unusual places which runs from 20 September to 20 October 2013. Sydney Tower in the background, rises above the trees.

Museum of Sydney, Snailovation

This giant snail sculpture is currently located on a bench outside the Museum of Sydney. Snailovation are brightly coloured snails that were created by the Cracking Art Group. They have been installed on city streets and in parks as part of Art and About Sydney, a festival of art in unusual places which runs from 20 September to 20 October 2013. The historic sandstone building in the background is the Chief Secretary’s Building, along Phillip Street.

Bronte, Waverley Cemetery, memorial

This monument stands close to the entrance of Waverley Cemetery, in the eastern suburb of Bronte. The memorial is dedicated to the four officers killed in an 1891 submarine mine explosion at Middle Head. The Stone of Rememberance was added to the foot of the monument in 2010 to pays homage to all soldiers who have given their lives to protect Australia.

Bronte, Waverley Cemetery

The entrance to Waverley Cemetery, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, in the eastern suburb of Bronte. The first interment took place here in 1877 and there are more than 50,000 gravesites and memorials over 40 acres. The front gates are a memorial to the residents of the area who died during World War I and World War II.

Yeo Park is located along Old Canterbury Road in the inner west suburb of Ashfield. This bandstand, which was built in 1929, stands in the middle of the park surrounded by a pond.

Marrickville, St Brigid's Catholic Church

St Brigid's Catholic Church is located on the corner of Marrickville Road and Livingstone Road, in the inner west suburb of Marrickville.  This heritage listed church was designed by John Bede Barlow and competed in 1936 in the Inter-War Spanish Mission architectural style.

Pyrmont, jetty and steps

Pirrama Park is located on the foreshore of Johnstons Bay, in the inner west suburb of Pyrmont. It features this concrete jetty and these concrete steps leading down to the bay inscribed with the words "Beneath the still surface of the sea".

Eveleigh, NICTA building

The NICTA building is located along Cornwallis Street in the Australian Technology Park, in the inner city suburb of Eveleigh. NICTA is the National Information Communications Technology Australia, a research and development centre of excellence. Built in 2003, the facade of this building features rusted steel louvres down both sides.

Eveleigh, water tower

This heritage listed water tower is located at the north eastern entrance of the Australian Technology Park, in the inner city suburb of Eveleigh. The Australian Technology Park utilises the heritage buildings of the old Eveleigh Railway Yards. The water tower consists of a 40,000 gallon, open-topped, riveted wrought iron tank on a metal stand. It was erected in 1926 to supply water for the blacksmith and furnace operator in the Locomotive Workshops.

Erskineville, Our Lady of Perpetual Succour

St Marys Catholic Church is located along Swanson Street, in the inner city suburb of Erskineville. Also known as Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, this heritage listed building was designed by J. McCarthy and built in 1912 in the Federation Arts and Crafts architectural style.

Erskineville, school

Erskineville Public School is located along Swanson Street, in the inner city suburb of Erskineville. The original heritage listed building was designed by C Blackmann and Varney Parkes in the Victorian Free Classical style building and built in 1883. The bell tower stands above the Boys wing of the building.

Parramatta, St Patrick's Cathedral

St Patrick's Cathedral is located on the corner of Marist Place and Victoria Road, in the western suburb of Parramatta. This heritage listed Catholic church was designed by James Houison and built in 1853 in the Victorian Gothic stone church reusing stone and many elements of an earlier church on the site. The tower and spire were added to the church in 1878 and 1883. The church was demolished and rebuilt in 1936 and again in 1996 after it was gutted by fire.

Noller Bridge is a footbridge over the Parramatta River, in the western suburb of Parramatta. It links historic Parramatta Park to the Parramatta central business district, which has many high rise office buildings and apartments.

Leichhardt, school

Leichhardt Public School is located on the corner of Norton Street and Marion Street, in the inner west suburb of Leichhardt. The Infants building was designed by William Kemp in the Victorian Italianate architectural style and built in 1891. A proliferation of signs outside the school at the moment, inludes a banner advertising the school's Spring Fete held last week and an election poster for The Greens on the lamp post for the federal election.

Leichhardt, Methodist Central Hall

The former Methodist Central Hall is located on Wetherill Street, in the inner west suburb of Leichhardt. This heritage listed building was built in 1905 in the Federation Free architectural style. The building is now the home of the Leichhardt Uniting Church. The Uniting Church in Australia is a union of three churches: the Congregational Union of Australia, the Methodist Church of Australasia and the Presbyterian Church of Australia.

Leichhardt Town Hall is located on the corner of Norton Street and Marion Street, in the inner west suburb of Leichhardt. It was designed by Drake & Walcotand built in 1888 in the Victorian Free Classical style.

Leichhardt, mural

This mural is located on the side of a house, adjacent to a council car park, in the inner west suburb of Leichhardt. It was created by Shannon Crees in 2009 for the Wall to Wall Competition, which seeks to minimise graffiti in the local area whilst offering artists an opportunity to showcase their skills, style and creativity.

St David’s Anglican Church is located along Forest Road, in the southern suburb of Arncliffe. It was built in 1915 in the Federation architectural style. It styles itself as a "cross-culture bible church, a church for people from all backgrounds, cultures and ages".

Edgecliff, post office and telephone exchange

The former post office and telephone exchange is located on the corner of Old South Head Road and Edgecliff Roadin the eastern suburb of Edgecliff. This heritage listed building was built in 1942 in the Inter War architectural style. It is now used for office and commercial space, including the office of Malcolm Turnbull, the Federal Member for the seat of Wentworth. Today is the Australian federal election and his election poster can be seen displayed here in the window, on the ground floor. If opinion polling is correct, his conservative Liberal Party of Australia, is expected to win today and Australia will have a new prime minister.

St Mary's Cathedral, Saint Mary of the Cross

This sculpture of Saint Mary of the Cross and two children is located along College Street, at the Hyde Park entrance of St Mary's Cathedral. Mary MacKillop was canonised in Rome in 2010 as Australia's first saint. This bronze statue on a granite plinth, created by Louis Laumen, was unveiled here a week later.

Darlinghurst, National School Hall

The former National School Hall is located along William Street, in the inner city suburb of Darlinghurst. The building, now part of the Austraian Museum, was designed by Henry Robertson and built in 1865 in the Victorian Free Gothic architectural style. It stands beside the contemporary Collections and Research Building of the Australian Museum built in 2008. The futuristic facade design incorporates an artwork that shows elements inspired by the scale pattern and iridescence of a butterfly’s wing.

Darlinghurst, Campus Garden Chapel

The Campus Garden Chapel is in the grounds of Sacred Heart Hospice, located along Darlinghurst Road, in the inner city suburb of Darlinghurst. It is part of a group of heritage listed buildings that includes the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart School.

Darlinghurst, mural

"We Are Here" is a 15-metre-high, 75-metre-long mural in the inner city suburb of Darlinghurst. It is on the rear façade of the old Oxford Street Municipal Chambers along Foley Street, between Palmer Street and Crown Street. This giant artwork which was created by Australian street artists, illustrators and photographers, depicts some of the city’s most significant people and events using paint, collage, drawing, paste-ups, stencils, neon lights and photography. This part of the mural focuses on the theme of eliminating racism and homophobia.

Darlinghurst, memorial (Theme Day: Pink)

This memorial is located in Green Park, in the inner city suburb of Darlinghurst. The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Holocaust Memorial was designed by Russell Rodrigo and Jennifer Gamble and opened in 2001. In the form of a pink triangle and black poles, it commemorates the gay men and lesbian women who were murdered, tortured or persecuted because of their sexuality, by the Nazis during World War II. The pink triangle was one of the Nazi concentration camp badges, used to identify male prisoners who were sent there because of their homosexuality. Green Park is adjacent to the Sydney Jewish Museum and Darlinghurst is considered the heart of Sydney's gay and lesbian population.
