Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, sculpture

This giant bronze public sculpture has been installed in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA). "Ancient Feelings was created in 2025 by British artist Thomas J Price, as the first in the new annual Neil Balnaves Tallawoladah Lawn Commission series. It invites reflection on representation and human connection.

Darling Harbour, Australian National Maritime Museum

Looking across Darling Harbour towards the W Hotel and the Australian National Maritime Museum at night. The blue cranes in front of the Sofitel Hotel are part of a new development which is replacing Harbourside. The James Craig is a Tall Ship moored outside Wharf 7 of Sydney Wharf, as part of the permanent display of the museum.

Darlinghurst, rainbow crossing

This progressive pride rainbow crossing has been installed at Taylor Square, on the corner of Bourke Street and Forbes Street, in the inner city suburb of Darlinghurst. It stands outside the former Darlinghurst police station which was repurposed in 2024 as Qtopia, a museum of queer history and culture.

Museum of Contemporary Art

This artwork adorns the foyer of the Mordant Wing of the Museum of Contemporary Art. "Bodies of Water" was created in 2024 by Hayv Kahraman, an Iraqi-Swedish-American artist of Kurdish descent In researching Australia's immigration policy, Kahraman began to draw parallels between water, migration and the processes of Ebru marbling, a traditional Turkish art form which involves painting on water.

The Rocks, Mining Museum

 
This heritage listed building is a former electricity power station, mining museum and chemical laboratory, located between George Street and Hickson Road at The Rocks. This view is from the George Street side, with the abutment to the Sydney Harbour Bridge seen on the left. It was designed by the Government Architect, Walter Liberty Vernon in the Federation Warehouse style with Romanesque and Art Nouveau detailing. The electricity power station and workshops were constructed in the lower part of the building by 1902 with the mining museum, chemical laboratories and octagonal chimney stack in the upper levels of the building constructed by 1909. It became known as the Earth Exchange in 1990 but since 1996 it has been fitted out for office space.

Australian National Maritime Museum, art

This mural is located on the forecourt of the Australian National Maritime Museum at Darling Harbour, in the inner city suburb of Pyrmont. "Shallow Iridescence" was created by local artist InkHunter in 2023. It features a giant blue-ringed octopus in a flared up posture, warning and warding off interference, signalling the need to give the ocean space to recover.

The Rocks, George Street

A view of George Street at the Rocks looking north towards the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This was before street dining was introduced in front of the historic shopfronts, hotels and restaurants opposite the police station and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Rockdale, Lydham Hall (Theme Day: Local History)

"Lydham Hall" is a heritage-listed former residence and now museum along Lydham Avenue, in the southern suburb of Rockdale. It was built in 1860 in the Georgian colonial style with Victorian style influences.

Australian Museum, William Street

These buildings along William Street are part of the Australian Museum in the inner city suburb of Darlinghurst. The original Barnet Wing with an entrance along College Street was built in the 1880s in the neo-classical style is partly seen here on the right. The Collections and Research Building on the left was completed in 2008 and the Parkes-Farmer Wing in the centre was completed in 1963.

The Australian National Maritime Museum and HMAS Vampire moored on display at Darling Harbour were illuminated with these projections during the Vivid Sydney Festival. "Harbour Life" was created by Artists in Motion and depicts the indigenous Eora people as they fish with a spear and burra (fishing hook), while keeping the ecosystem in balance;the desolation of oceans as colonial settlers arrive and industrial fishing takes hold; and how conservationists are saving our sea life from pollution and stray nets with ocean-based drones and recycling efforts.

Sydney skyline, Vivid Sydney

A view of Circular Quay and the Sydney skyline illuminated for the annual Vivid Sydney Festival, which is running from 26 May to 17 June 2023. This view is from the Overseas Passenger Terminal looking towards the Circular Quay ferry wharves, Circular Quay railway station and Museum of Contemporary Art, rising up to the city skyscrapers.

The Rocks, George Street

These restaurants and cafes along George Street in The Rocks have outdoor seating which extends beyond the footpath onto the road. The concrete safety bollards have been decorated with indigenous artwork. The alfresco dining which also reduced traffic was introduced in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic but due to its popularity has remained. The police station and Museum of Contemporary Art on the left and Sydney's newest skyscraper Salesforce Tower can be seen in the distance beside the EY Sweeney building.

This sculpture is located in the Circular Quay West forecourt of the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia at The Rocks. 'Secret World of a Starlight Ember' was created in 2020 by Lindy Lee. The Sydney Opera House can be seen in the distance across Circular Quay.

Museum of Contemporary Art, P.P.F. (Past-Present-Future) (Theme Day: Museums)

The Museum of Contemporary Art features temporary commissioned murals on the wall of the Circular Quay foyer. "P.P.F. (Past-Present-Future)" was created by Vincent Namatjira in 2021. The indigenous artist has assembled seven figures significant to his life and practice in a large-scale ‘heroes narrative’. The work is semi-autobiographical with each of the men represented on the wall having inspired him and remind him of who he is.

Little Bay, The Wishing Bell

'The Wishing Bell' is a monument located along Brodie Avenue at the former Prince Henry Hospital site, in the eastern suburb of Little Bay. It stands opposite the clock tower and heritage listed hospital buildings which are now a museum. The bell on this monument was formerly on the clock tower of the Coast Hospital, established here in 1881 to deal with a growing epidemic of Smallpox in Sydney. To commemorate the centenary of the hospital in 1981, the bell was mounted on a pedestal made of stonework from the lodge which marked the original entrance to the hospital.

Vaucluse House

Vaucluse House is located along Wentworth Road, in the eastern suburb of Vaucluse. This heritage listed mansion was designed by Henry Browne Hayes and built in 1803 in the Gothic Revival style with additions made in 1828. The fountain was installed in the pleasure garden in 1862. In 1915 Vaucluse House became Australia’s first official house museum.

Hyde Park Barracks, Noël Sydney

Hyde Park Barracks along Macquarie Street, featured these light projections, as part of the Noël Sydney Christmas Festival held in Macquarie Street and the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.

Sydney Mint Museum, Noël Sydney

The Sydney Mint Museum along Macquarie Street featured these light projections, as part of the Noël Sydney Christmas Festival from 9 to 24 December 2022. The Noël Light Trail was along Macquarie Street, leading to the Royal Botanic Garden.
