Kogarah, skyline

Notable landmarks seen here are the new wing of St George Hospital, Resurrection of Christ Greek Orthodox Church, Kogarah Library and Kogarah Town Square.

Kogarah, Uniting Church

These former factory buidings are bounded by Gray Street, Kensington Street and Post Office Lane in the southern suburb of Kogarah. The former Kogarah Methodist Church and the former Congregational Church amalgamated to form the Uniting Church. Those church buildings were sold and demolished in 1986 to facilitate the expansion of the St George Hospital. This nearby discarded factory became home to the Uniting Church Brighton-Kogarah Congregation and the Kogarah Storehouse, a public benevolent institution which provides support to those in need.

Kogarah, Resurrection of Christ Greek Orthodox Church

The Resurrection of Christ Greek Orthodox Church is in the southern suburb of Kogarah. It was constructed in the 1980s but the facade was refurbished in 2021. The original brick facade can be seen here.

Kogarah, mural

This mural featuring reeds and a creek is on the side of the former Kogarah Civic Centre extending to the footpath and transformer, located on the corner of Post Office Lane and Wicks Lane, in the southern suburb of Kogarah. The suburb name Kogarah is derived from an indigenous word meaning “Place of Reeds”. The administration building was for the former City of Kogarah local government area which had reeds in its logo. The local council merged with the Hurstville City Council in 2016, to form the Georges River Council.

Kogarah, Fry's Reserve

 These blooming Jacaranda trees line the stormwater drain in Fry's Reserve, in the southern suburb of Kogarah. A newly married couple has chosen this location to take some wedding photos.

Kogarah, Belgrave Court

"Belgrave Court" is a group of shops and offices, located on the corner of Belgrave Street and Railway Parade, in the southern suburb of Kogarah. This heritage listed building was built in 1912 in the Federation Anglo Dutch Style.

Kogarah, Anzac Memorial

The Anzac memorial stands in Kogarah Town Square, along Belgrave Street in the southern suburb of Kogarah. The sculpture commemorates the nurses and soldiers who served on the Greek Island of Lemnos during the Gallipoli campaign in 1915 and 1916 during World War One, and the role of Lemnos in the campaign. Unveiled in 2017, the bronze statue of the injured soldier and the metal frame outline of a nurse was created by Takis Kozokos with the plaque created by Dr Ross Bastiaan.

Kogarah, pub

 The Bank Tavern is on the corner of Belgrave Street and Post Office Lane in the southern suburb of Kogarah. It was built in the 1890s in the Victorian Italianate style as a branch of the Commonwealth Bank. When the bank relocated to a new branch in the 1980s it was redeveloped into Red Martins Nightclub before becoming a pub.

Kogarah, substation

This substation is located along Gray Street, in the southern suburb of Kogarah. St George County Council was once the electricity supplier for this area which was set up in 1922 and had it’s office in Kogarah. In 1979 the organisation was dissolved and Sydney’s electricity services amalgamated to form the Sydney County Council. The substation was built in the art deco style and retains its heritage signage. The houses around it were recently demolished and it will soon be dwarfed by a highrise apartment building.

Kogarah, St George-Illawarra Walk of Fame

The St George-Illawarra Walk of Fame is located outside Jubilee Stadium along Park Street, in the southern suburb of Kogarah. It commemorates the rugby league players in the NRL football team, the St George Illawarra Dragons.

This church hall stands beside St Paul's Anglican Church, located along Princes Highway in the southern suburb of Kogarah.

St Paul's Anglican Church is located along Princes Highway in the southern suburb of Kogarah. This heritage listed church was built in 1869 in the Victoria Free Gothic style.

Kogarah, sign

 This gateway sign is located in Hogben Park, along Harrow Road, in the southern suburb of Kogarah. The City of Kogarah local government area merged with the Hurstville City Council in 2016, to form the Georges River Council. The logo features a dragon which references the legend of Saint George, representing council's connection with the wider St George areaa, the teal colour represents the Georges River itself and a Port Jackson fig leaf represents the Indigenous peoples and their connection to country, The sign also includes an acknowledgement of the traditional owners of the land, the Biddegal.

This mural featuring reeds is on the side of a lift at the former Kogarah Civic Centre, located along Belgrave Street in the southern suburb of Kogarah. The suburb name Kogarah is derived from an indigenous word meaning “Place of Reeds”. The administration building was for the former City of Kogarah local government area which had reeds in its logo. The local council merged with the Hurstville City Council in 2016, to form the Georges River Council. The Customer Service Centre which was at this entrance, now houses a gym and retail space.

Kogarah, statue

This statue is located outside Jubilee Stadium along Park Street, in the southern suburb of Kogarah. It commemorates rugby league player Reg Gasnier, who played for the St George Dragons from 1958 to 1967. The statue was dedicated in 2010 at the Sydney Football Stadium in Moore Park but due to the redevelopment of that stadium moved to Jubilee Stadium in 2019 for the duration. The St George Illawarra Dragons Walk of Fame is also located here.
