Sydenham, Track Inspection Vehicle

This Track Inspection Vehicle is passing through the railway station in the inner west suburb of Sydenham. MTPV1 is one of two Mechanised Track Patrol (MTP) vehicles used since 2014 which reduce the need for manual track inspections. They use laser-based technologies for track geometry, rail profile, rail corrugations and non-contact overhead wiring measurement.

Sydenham, railway station

Sydenham railway station is a junction for the Sydney Trains T4 Illawarra and T8 South railway lines and the Sydney Metro North West & Bankstown railway lines. It opened on 15 October 1884 as Marrickville on the Illawarra line to Hurstville. It was renamed Sydenham on 19 January 1895 when the Bankstown line opened to Belmore and a new railway station was built closer to the centre of Marrickville. These stairs link platforms 4 and 5 with the concourse.

This is part of a mural which appears on the side wall of a shop and residence on the corner of Railway Road and Unwins Bridge Road, in the inner west suburb of Sydenham. 'Wetland' was created by David Cragg in 2023 for the Inner West Council's Perfect Match Street Art program.

Sydenham, General Gorden Hotel

The General Gorden Hotel is located bounded by Swain Street, Burrows Avenue and Gleeson Street, in the inner west suburb of Sydenham. The original pub was built on this site in 1885 and named for General Charles Gordon, who had died in the defence of Khartoum in January 1885 and was commemorated all over the British Empire as a heroic martyr. This larger hotel was designed by Sidney Warden in 1932, in the Georgian Revival for Tooth & Co Ltd.

This tilework is at the Railway Road entrance of the railway station in the inner west suburb of Sydenham. Sydenham railway station is a junction for the T4 Illawarra, T8 South and T3 Bankstown railway lines. It opened on 15 October 1884 as Marrickville on the Illawarra line to Hurstville. It was renamed Sydenham on 19 January 1895 when the Bankstown line opened to Belmore and a new railway station was built closer to the centre of Marrickville. A new concourse was built in 2013 along with this covered entrance.

Sydenham Green, monument

  This monument is located in Sydenham Green, a recreation area which has been created around Railway Road, in the inner west suburb of Sydneham. The memorial was built in 2019 on the site of what was the first Coptic Orthodox Church in Australia. It consists of polished concrete arches joined by a stainless-steel Coptic Cross as the centerpiece. The colourful aluminum discs in the archway are representative of heaven and feature the Coptic colours. The former church was originally built in 1884 as the Tempe Park Methodist Church and in 1968 became the  St Mary and St Mina Coptic Orthodox Church. It was demolished in 2017 under the pretext that the building had become life-threatening in the wake of a fire. The foundation plaques from the original church have been installed beside it.

Sydenham Green is a recreational area which has been created around Railway Road, in the inner west suburb of Sydenham. It was created in 1999 after over 150 homes were acquired and demolished by the Federal Government when aircraft noise from the third runway at Sydney Airport made the area uninhabitable. This artwork in the middle of the park depicts a typical lounge room from one of those lost houses. It features a giant doorway, fireplace mantle with adornments including a doily and hanging mirror, an oversized black lamp shade and a coffee table with a giant tea pot and cup. Sydenham, park

Sydenham Green was established as urban parkland in 1999, in the inner west suburb of Sydenham. It was developed in consultation with local residents as a cultural and recreational landscape, with the aim of bringing new life to the suburb. The site became available through acquisition of aircraft noise affected homes. This map located at the entrance of the park, illustrates the former neighbourhood plan.

Sydenham, sculpture

This sandstone memorial sculpture in Sydenham Green, a park in the inner west suburb of Sydenham. It was created by Aboriginal Artist Joe Hirst and dedicated in 1999 to the Stolen Generations. It features images of boomerangs and a couple of small reflective pools. The Stolen Generations is a term used to describe the children of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent who were removed from their families by the Australian federal and state government agencies and church missions, under acts of their respective parliaments.

Sydenham, substation

This electricity substation No.43 is located along Unwins Bridge Road, in the inner west suburb of Sydenham. This heritage listed building was built in 1913 in the Federation Arts and Crafts architectural style, with Art Nouveau elements such as the style of lettering. Even power sub-stations were beautifully designed back then. The Municipal Council of Sydney logo (MCS), appears on the facade along with identification number "No 43" and the words "Electricity Sub-station" in relief, above the main doorway. An "Electricity Australia" sign and warning signs have been attached to the wall and roller shutter door.
