Sydenham railway station is a junction for the Sydney Trains T4 Illawarra and T8 South raklway lines and the Sydney Metro North West & Bankstown railway lines. It opened on 15 October 1884 as Marrickville on the Illawarra line to Hurstville. It was renamed Sydenham on 19 January 1895 when the Bankstown line opened to Belmore and a new railway station was built closer to the centre of Marrickville. These stairs link platforms 4 and 5 with the concourse.

Nice with the arrows.
ReplyDeleteLove the stairwells and it's so clean. Certainly not someplace in the U.S. Beautiful station.

It's fascinating how Sydenham Station's evolution reflects the growth of Sydney's rail network, and those stairs connecting platforms 4 and 5 stand as a small but vital link in a hub of historical transit significance.
ReplyDeleteSince I broke my ankle a few months ago, those stairs look difficult. Is there an alternative method of going upstairs eg a lift?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is behind the stairs. You will notice a "LIFT" sign on either side of the stairs but the arrows have been cropped in this shot.
DeleteLovely capture.
ReplyDeleteGreat click
ReplyDeleteI like that the stairs are color coordinated for the different train lines.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like alot of steps but it's nice that it all looks so clean and tidy.
ReplyDeleteA long set of steps! I like the colors and it is very clean. Thank you for linking up.
