Eveleigh, Locomotive Workshop, cafe

The Grounds Coffee Factory is a cafe in the redeveloped Locomotive Workshop, located along Locomotive Avenue in the inner city suburb of Eveleigh. The Grounds Roastery offers immersive coffee tours of the coffee bean roasting, sorting, blending and packaging machinery. The workshop was part of the former Eveleigh Railway Yards, built in 1877 for trades required to repair or manufacture locomotives and their components. The cafe and roastery opened in 2024 as a spin-off of The Grounds of Alexandria, which itself opened in 2012.

Cronulla, mural

This mural is on the garage of a commercial building on the corner of Gerrale Street and Nicholson Parade, in the southern suburb of Cronulla. It recently housed a laundrette on the ground floor and Pilgrim's Vegeterian Cafe on the first floor but is currently being redeveloped. The images in the mural are of the nearby Cronulla beaches, which can be seen from the front of the building.

Ramsgate Beach, cafe

 

A view of a cafe at an entrance to Lady Robinsons Beach along Botany Bay, in the southern suburb of Ramsgate Beach. A king high tide, combined with large swells and strong winds overnight had washed sand onto the footpath last week.

Haymarket, cafe

This former warehouse building is located along Valentine Street, in the inner city suburb of Haymarket. It now houses "A Common Being" which includes the busineses "Outta Coffee" a cafe on the ground floor, "Maillot" a shop which curates street fashion and designer brands from around the world and "Blank Gallery" a dynamic creative art space. This building was previously home to the Trinity Lutheran Church.

OTC House, mural

Elizabeth Street, Lawson Place

 

Lawson Place is a commercial building between Elizabeth Street and Phillip Street. This view is of Elizabeth Street which features a Piccolo Me cafe on the ground floor. The building next door was originally home to the Broughton Club which had become the United Services Club by 1907. It became the New South Wales Leagues Club from 1915, housing the rugby league offices and committee rooms, bars, billiards and card rooms and residential quarters. It expanded into this former warehouse building but the club closed in 2015 and it became a Mercure Hotel. After extensive renovations, it became The Sebel Sydney Martin Place hotel in 2024, with its main entrance in Phillip Street.

Sylvania Waters, house

This commercial and residential building is next to the Doltone House function centre, located along Belgrave Esplanade, in the southern suburb of Sylvania Waters. It was originally built as a four bedroom house and then used as a restaurant and cafe. It is currently being used as office space.

Darlington, Cafe Abercrombie

Cafe Abercrombie is located along Abercrombie Street, in the inner city suburb of Darlington.

Hyde Park, Hydeaway (Theme Day: Outdoor Cafe)

Hydeaway is a cafe located in the south western corner of Hyde Park, behind the main entrance of Museum Railway Station. The Hyde Park Cafe was previously located here. The Downing Centre is the heritage building behind it, diagonally across the Elizabeth Street and Liverpool Street intersection. Originally known as 'The Piazza', it was the site of Mark Foy's department store, now converted to a court complex.

Darlinghurst, cafe

This former corner shop with residence above is located on the corner of Liverpool Street and Bourke Street, in the inner city suburb of Darlinghurst. The building has been redeveloped with an extension behind the shop and an additional two floors added above for apartments. The shop on the corner is now The Mayflower cafe,

Dulwich Hill, apartments

This commercial and residential building is located on the corner of Wardell Road and Ewart Street, in the inner west suburb of Dulwich Hill. 'Nea Zoi' was built in 2019 with shops on the ground floor and apartments above. This photo was taken a couple of years ago when Alevri, a Greek cafe and bakery was operating on the corner.

Sylvania, mural

 
This mural is on a wall at the entrance to Southgate Shopping Centre, in the southern suburb of Sylvania. It depicts the houses, cafes and wharves around the Georges River in this suburb.

Waverley, cafe

This former corner shop is located on the corner of Bronte Road and Albion Street, in the eastern suburb of Waverley. It was built in the Victorian style and now houses the Bellagio Cafe.

The Rocks, George Street

These restaurants and cafes along George Street in The Rocks have outdoor seating which extends beyond the footpath onto the road. The concrete safety bollards have been decorated with indigenous artwork. The alfresco dining which also reduced traffic was introduced in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic but due to its popularity has remained. The police station and Museum of Contemporary Art on the left and Sydney's newest skyscraper Salesforce Tower can be seen in the distance beside the EY Sweeney building.

Five Dock, shops and offices

This commercial building is located at the intersection of Ramsay Road, First Avenue and Great Northern Road, in the inner west suburb of Five Dock. This heritage listed building was built around 1920 in the Inter-War Style. The shops on the ground flour include a gelato cafe on the corner and the offices upstairs belong to a legal firm of Solicitors and Conveyancers.

Cockle Bay Wharf, building

The Cockle Bay Wharf building is on the eastern side of Cockle Bay. It is home to restaurants, cafes, bars, a function centre and a nightclub.

North Bondi, cafe

This building is located on the corner of Brighton Boulevarde and Campbell Parade, in the eastern suburb of North Bondi. Built in the art deco style, it houses Cafe Bondi and residential flats.

Marrickville, mural

This artwork is on the wall of a former warehouse, which is now part of the Marrickville Metro shopping centre, along Smidmore Street in the inner west suburb of Marrickville. The artwork by Georgia Hill spans the full facade, revealing a larger message "You’re Here, I'm Here Too". The awnings feature the names of the cafes and restaurants. The other half can be seen here.
