Cronulla, Wanda Beach

The walkway leads down to Wanda Beach, the northernmost patrolled beach of the southern suburb of Cronulla. Vegetation has been grown behind the beach to protect the sand dunes and the fences prevent beachgoers from damaging them.

  2. This is a beautiful beach scene. Dunes at many of our beaches have also been planted to help fight erosion.

  3. Great photo but what happened to all the tee-trees that used to/should have protected the sand? Every Australian beach below the tropics needs its tee-trees.

  4. Sunshine and beautiful. We saw grasses like that when we were on our summer roadtrip, planted for the same purpose. I am grateful for those who know what we need to do to preserve these places.

  5. Hels, there are tea trees and other natives planted or naturally growing at other locations around the sand dunes. Many of them were cleared before they realised the sort of destruction that caused. They now have revegetation plans.

It reminds me of a beach near Montpellier in the south of France;o)
    Thanks for sharing;o)

  8. I'm trying not to be jealous of beaches and warm weather. It's snowing here again.

  9. Peter, the flags were to the right. You can see the swimmers in the ocean but the flags on shore are hidden by the dunes in this shot.

  12. It used to be a wild untouched beach back in the 50's. No paths no fences and no patrol. The dunes were very high. It is a beautiful beach.

  18. Wow - and we are expecting snow again soon! I am such a warm weather fiend! Not doing so well in the cold. Guess you have to experience the both of them to appreciate the beauty of it all!
    Beautiful picture.

  19. diane b, I'm sure it would be an interesting contrast to the 1950s. I can only compare it to what I remember from the 1980s and it has certainly changed a lot since then.
