Hyde Park, Frederic Joseph Walker memorial fountain

On the western side of Hyde Park, this fountain is a focal point for people and birds. It features mosaic tiles and sits close to the sandstone statues that I showed yesterday. The plaque nearby reads as follows: This fountain was presented to the City of Sydney by the family of Frederic Joseph Walker as a tribute to his memory and all who pioneered primary industry in Australia. 15th February 1961.

  1. I can see where the birds would think it is a giant bird bath! Very nice.

  2. FJ Walker ... immediately a vision of a navy and white meat truck sprung into my minds'-eye. I grew up in the Hunter Valley and his trucks supplied all the butcher shops around.

  8. I would enjoy sticking my feet in there. Wondering why there aren't lots of people doing so? Do they not let you? It's very inviting.

  9. Leora, they do that sometimes, but there are bigger fountains in the park where it's easier to do that. I took this photo in the afternoon when many of the office workers have returned to their offices and it's winter here so there aren't as many people out in the park.
