Circular Quay, ferries
These Sydney Ferries have just departed Circular Quay Ferry Terminal and are travelling past the Bennelong Apartments at East Circular Quay. The Golden Grove is a First Fleet Class ferry acquired in 1986 and is part of the fleet that operates on the Inner Harbour. It was named Golden Grove, after the one of eleven ships of the First Fleet that sailed to Australia in 1787. The Betty Cuthbert is a Rivercat Class ferry acquired in 1992 and is part of the fleet that cruises up the Parramatta River. It was named after Betty Cuthbert, an Australian athlete and Olympic gold medallist.

ReplyDeleteI ride both types of ferries, Jim, but hold a particular affection for the old ones. With my Seniors ticket, I can ride all day for $2.50. You took this from atop the Overseas Passenger Terminal. I was up there yesterday and it is a terrific view.

ReplyDeleteYou should take the River Cat up to Parramatta and back just for the ride, its a good trip and you see a different side of the city. Didn't know that's what the toaster was called. It will always be the Toaster to me.

ReplyDeletewow new ferries,and i didn't know they'd built around Circular Quay...the last thing that was built there was the Intercontinental hotel in competition to the Regent, when I worked there in 1982....as part of the original staff when it opened. I have a shot somewhere of one of the old ferries aground on manly beach when it didn't stop and ploughed thru the wharf.

ReplyDeleteApart from the ferries J, you can also try out another popular transport in the city - the cabs! The Cabbie-oke karaoke cabs have become extremely popular in Sydney, especially with such vids doing the rounds of YouTube presently!
