Summer Hill, St Andrews Anglican Church

St Andrew's Anglican Church, located on the corner of Smith Street and Henson Street, dominates the skyline of Summer Hill. This sandstone and brick church was designed by Alexander Leckie Elphinstone Junior with the foundation stone laid in 1883 and the spire completed in 1906. I was lucky enough to get a bit of blue sky in this shot because those clouds rolled in so quickly that it was completely overcast within minutes.

  9. Leif, it's often hard to get the chance or permission to photograph inside churches. I'll keep it mind for the future though.

  15. Our sky is doing that this week - changing quickly.

What do you reckon: Sydney has more pubs or more churches?

  16. Julie, it's a toss up. I think there are certainly more pubs as you get closer to the city but maybe more churches as you venture further out in the suburbs.

  20. The church is really beautiful! To Leif Hagen: Inside it is beautiful too! Worth a visit to see the lovely church interior! Shame the Anglicans plan to sell the lovely original wooden pews as per the note on the door this week!

  32. So enjoying looking around your city, but am amazed by the lack of people. Either you're incredibly patient or Sydney is really quite empty.

  40. It is an amazing church building, and it was built to try to capture the glory and magnificence of God.
You should come inside and hear a message about Jesus by far which overshadows a mere building.
