Many of the old houses and shops in the southern suburb of Kogarah have been demolished in recent years to make way for more higher density developments such as apartments, commercial and office space or the expanding hospitals and schools in this area. Luckily, on the Princes Highway, this shop and residence with a bit of character has survived. It currently houses Monetarium, a dealer in rare coins and banknotes.
I love old buildings. Each of them has a story to tell.
ReplyDeleteI glad it was saved. It is a lovely building!
ReplyDeleteI've very much enjoyed 'strolling' through your pictures. Sydney is a lovely city! I'll be back to see more!
ReplyDeleteThat building has a lot of character -- glad it survived. It's being put to a very interesting use, one that seems to go with the building somehow -- sort of a holdover from another age. (I don't really know anything about rare currency, but it sounds somehow romantic and mysterious.)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous architecture and the name of the business is just too appropriate.
ReplyDeleteinteresting post....thank you for the details....
ReplyDeleteI love old buildings and learning their history. Glad this one has survived. I also like the churches in your previous posts.

Love the brick on that building -- and the shape -- yes it is sad when they demolish those beautiful structures and the new ones going up have no character what so ever,,
ReplyDeleteNice also seeing something from your part of the world, one of my places to visit almost got there last September
come visit me in the North West-- it is awesome when you get out of the city but even in the city you get nice views of the mountains.

Don't recognise this one at all, where is it. That walkway makes me think its somewhere on the way to the schools down on the highway.
ReplyDeleteI always see this from the street so I have never noticed the second story.
ReplyDeleteAnn, you're absolutely right. It's opposite the St George TAFE college, near James Cook Boys High and Moorefield Girls High. That curved ramp leads to the walkway over Princes Highway, where I took this photo from.
ReplyDeleteThat's nice,,but the worst thing about living so close to your work, is that if you are running late, you can't speed up and make up time.
ReplyDeleteInteresting building and place. The name is irresistible.
ReplyDeleteold buildings have so much character! and that's a great pic J Bar!
ReplyDeletei love old houses. i hope this one will be spared for the next generation to see.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo, and I'm also glad it's still there. Things built in the name of "progress" are so often terrible for the landscape! I enjoy your blog and the photos and info you share from "down under" very much!
