Kogarah, water feature
This water feature runs almost the entire length of Kogarah Town Square. The water rises from these three fountains which spill into a pool. The water cascades down a number of terraces and drains into a spiral among grasses. It was installed around the time that the square opened in 2005. On the 28th March 2009, a memorial plaque was installed dedicated to International Workers Memorial Day. Today is a day that workers, union, families and communities remember and mourn those who have been killed or injured at work and fight for the living.
Beautifully planned waterfalls...and lovely shots you took of them.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, it looks like a great spot to linger and a place children would like to play. I wonder if it is allowed?
ReplyDeleteLovely watery spots!
ReplyDeleteA fascinating installation for a good purpose!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful town planning, and beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteMakes me want to go barefooted! What a nice place.
ReplyDeleteMartha Z, I've often seen young children splashing about in the pond and their parents anxiously trying to drag them away.
ReplyDeleteWhat a challenge for the geometry of life, becoming a spiral of hope.
ReplyDeletePlease have a wonderful Wednesday.

ReplyDeletevery cool feature, i like the first one the best.
ReplyDeleteI've seen the water feature but didn't realise it had anything to do with International Workers Day - didn't know there was one.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post to commemorate the those who sacrificed!

ReplyDeleteWatery Wednesday
Beautifully designed.
ReplyDeleteI think it's nice that people in your country remember those who have lost their lives working or having to fight.
ReplyDeleteWe have a Memorial Day in May for those who have lost their lives fighting for our country & a Labor Day in early September for the workers of our country.
The fountains look like a nice place to relax.
Beautiful! And nice gesture to these people...
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful fountain. Love that they have that grass around there. Suits it well!
ReplyDeleteNarelle will absolutely love this town square... I'll have to put her in a swim suit first, of course ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe spiral photo makes me think of workers just working and working and never stopping until they die. Is this their memorial?
ReplyDeleteThat is an attractive water feature.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful water feature, nice design. Thanks for sharing Jim:)
ReplyDeleteI like the 1st one...the one with the round, soft curves of it all, best.
ReplyDeleteMy WATERY WEDNESDAY...do stop by if you get a chance.
A beautiful place for reflection. Unfortunately, the practical side of me would be wondering about the pumps needed to keep the whole thing going. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat entry for WW...
ReplyDeleteAnn, I don't believe that was the intention of the memorial. As I mentioned in the post, the water feature was installed a long time before the dedication was made.
ReplyDeletehahahahah
ReplyDeleteeverytime when I open a blog and see the sculpture(your profile) I say to myself:

Rebecca, the development around Kogarah Town Centre has won awards in sustainability. It uses solar power, stormwater recycling, rainwater reuse and passive design principles to maximise natural flows of heat, energy and light.

ReplyDeleteWhich reminds me, the unions and KK are currently in negotiation to increase the number of public holidays in NSW to 11 making NSW equal with other states.
ReplyDeleteThe unions want to call it Family &Community Day. What do you think?
I think it should be between July and September and have an Aboriginal connection.
Either that or Pokies Day ... THAT is a joke!!
what a beautiful memorial.
ReplyDeleteJulie, I always thought we should have an Indigenous Day as a public holiday in Australia. Maybe in July when we have NAIDOC week celebrations.
