Allawah, pub

The Allawah Hotel, built in 1928, is a notable example of interwar architecture in the southern suburb of Allawah. The name of the suburb comes from an aboriginal word meaning meaning 'make your abode here' or 'remain here', which is a suitable name for a mainly residential suburb.

  1. A lovely old building, I expect it's just as lovely on the inside.

  2. The colour has been changed recently and it looks great now. It was a shade of shocking pastel pink.

  5. Allawah, what kind of name is it? In the Muslim world, Allah is God. The natives in Borneo also call the Christian God Allah.

  7. You have found some amazing buildings. Sometimes I don't even have the architectural language to describe them (including this one). Many many thanks

  10. Hels, I know what you mean. I struggled to find an architectural style that best describes this pub, so settled on 'interwar' architecture.
