Cook and Phillip Park, zorbing

Thrillseekers were recently able to walk on water in one of the fountains, in the square beside Cook and Phillip Park. The 3.2m clear plastic inflated orb has double-sectioned balls, with one ball inside the other and an air layer in between. Zorbing usually involves an orb rolling downhill or off a ramp but in this case the rolling was on water. The rope ensured thrillseekers didn't end up rolling down the hill into the park or into the traffic on College Street or William Street. It was one of the attractions here at the recent Australian Winter Festival which also featured an ice rink.

  3. OK -- I've got grandkids who would do that in a minute! Did you?

  4. Looks fascinating. I don't think I've seen anything like it. I'm glad there are people willing to go for the "thrill," I'll pass.

    Nice shot, J Bar!

  6. Dina, it was very close to St Marys Cathedral, so the cardinal may have tried it. Ha ha.

Sallie, I didn't try it myself and after seeing some of the young blokes having a go I don't think I want to. Even the fittest ones almost collapsed from exhaustion running that short distance. It's very hard work, trying to walk on water.

  9. That looks like fun, though that guy with the rope seems a bit casual in his holding of his responsibility.

  31. Before reading, I thought this looks like a Zorb. Sure enough it it, an Aussie adaptation of a Kiwi invention. How does it move when it is on flat water level.

My dare deviled kids love the Zorb.

I was going to do Zorro for Letter Z, I might do Zorb as well. Thanks.

  32. No worries Ann. There's a lot shared inventions/developments between Australia and New Zealand. The pavlova is another that comes to mind.
