Park Street, Sydney 2000 Olympics, 10th anniversary banners

These banners hanging from the lamp posts in Park Street promote the 10th anniversary of the Sydney Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics. The City Banner Program is administered by the City of Sydney council. The banners are used to visually enhance the city’s streetscape and to promote cultural, tourism, sporting, retail and community events. There are close to 2000 banner locations in the city in prominent positions.

  1. That reminds me of the time I was in Sydney a month before the Olympic Games started. I saw the openings ceremony on TV and was moved by the song"I am Australian..."and every time I hear it, I am moved.

  2. I liked the banner. Here in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro take place in the Olympics in 2016 and the city will undergo several changes to host the games.

  3. Reader Wil, it certainly is a moving a song. It's an Australian classic.

Roberto, I like it when they pick cities that haven't hosted before, so I will be looking forward to seeing them in Rio De Janeiro in 2016.

  5. I'm intrigued by the 10 year anniversary commemoration. Do other Olympic cities hold this type of celebration?

    Happy travels!

  7. Thanks Ann. Did you know that a Sydney blogger was commissioned to do those photos for the 'Art and About' Banner Gallery? Louise from 52 Suburbs revealed it at the end of her Maroubra post.

Red Nomad Oz, I'm not sure if many other cities have held anniversary celebrations. I do remember something about the 1956 Melbourne Olympics being celebrated a few years back.

  9. Jim -- the colors in these photos are so bright and beautiful. Such a vibrant City.

Thanks for your nice comment -- we have seen a lot of lighthouses on this roadtrip, since we're sticking pretty close to the Coastline for the most part. I never get tired of them.
