Powerhouse Museum, The 80s Are Back

An interactive, electronic, giant Rubik's Cube.
'The 80s Are Back' is an exhibition currently on display at the Powerhouse Museum at Ultimo. This exhibition, which explores Australian life and culture in the 1980s, has been one of the most popular and longest running in the museum's history. The fascination for this decade remains with a revival of much of its culture in recent years, that has lasted longer than the decade itself. It was a great nostalgic trip, revisiting styles and trends from the 1980s and their effect on music, film, television, fashion and design.

  1. I'm not too fond of the 80's, but it's fun to see your shots of the exhibit.

  2. The 80s weren't my favorite decade, either, but this exhibit is probably more fun than the whole ten years put together.
    Super photos, Jim.

  5. I love Powerhouse Museum because of its connection to the two World Fairs (1879 and 1880). But it has a big task, covering Australian life and culture since the beginning! Always a great place to visit.

  9. Funky and bright. My memories of the 1980s are a bit of a blur... I was in college and enjoying learning about ancient and 19th century art. It didn't look like this to me.

  14. I always shudder at how old I'm getting when I see things in museums that I remember using, seeing, hearing. I am working in a school at the moment for a few weeks and kids are playing with Rubic's Cubes again.

  18. Great picture. So, did you solve the Rubik's cube?

(This post makes me feel quite elderly, as it is our kids' era! How is it possible for their high school and college years to be the stuff of nostalgia already ;>)
