This chimney stack at the former Kent Brewery in the inner city suburb of Chippendale dominates the skyline. The old brewery had also been known as the Carlton and United brewery, the Irving Street brewery and the Tooth brewery. The stack and these heritage buildings have been retained to be incorporated in the new Central Park redevelopment. This shot was taken late in the afternoon, in the golden glow of the setting sun.

ReplyDeleteThe arches with alternating light and dark coloured materials look as if they came out of Islamic architectural taste, perhaps southern Spain. Well done Sydney, keeping it.

ReplyDeleteJulie, they've built a display pavilion on Broadway for the Central Park development. I took this shot from the car park and others from the pavilion entrance, in front of the hoardings. The images are workers from the old brewery and local residents. Details about them and the artwork appear on the hoarding.

ReplyDeleteLovely to see the stack is still there. I painted on site a few years ago during the archaeological dig & I put a couple on my Urban landscape page : http://janebennettartist.blogspot.com/p/urban-landscape.html
Also painted some of the archaeological finds if the rain got too heavy. Lots of old beer bottles of course, but as you can see some old ink bottles, a perfume bottle and a large brown bottle of 'Geneva'. There was the Kent Brewery next door, as well as the Carlton United Brewery.
