Parramatta, ferry wharf

The Charles Street ferry wharf, on the southern side of the Parramatta River, serves the western suburb of Parramatta. A regular service is provided by RiverCat ferries on the Parramatta River route between here and Circular Quay. It is the farthest point of travel for Sydney Ferries on the river route, since a weir next to it prevents further travel upstream.

  1. It is quite a nice trip for tourists to take. Well, we enjoyed it.

  2. Yes, I enjoyed this trip, too. I am always astounded just how much the river narrows as it heads inland. I guess that makes logical sense, when I think about it.

What also astounds me is that there are few cafes in the vicinity of this terminal that are open on the weekend. Taking a picnic is essential, I have found.

  5. Jim, the information about the ferry is intriguing and I thought that Julie's comment about taking a picnic well-placed. The pavillion for waiting on the ferry with benches is essential.

    Nice reflection.

  6. I love all watery reflections! But the red in this picture -- showing so clearly in the reflection -- is absolutely wonderful.

  7. Goes to show how often I visit the western suburb of Parramatta. My parents in law lived in the Eastern Suburbs and my sister in law lives in Pymble, so my knowledge of the rest of Sydney is sadly gappy. Thanks for your photos :)

  10. Sallie, that red in the reflection comes from one of those LED advisory signs that can be towed behind a vehicle. You usually see these on the side of the road advising drivers of changed traffic conditions but it was used here to advise commuters about changes to ferry services.
