The former St Paul’s Anglican Church is located on the corner of Newcaslte Street and Old South Head Road in the eastern suburb of Rose Bay. It was built in 1918 and later became the church hall when a new church was built next door in 1929. Both are now deconsecrated and the hall is currently being used as a pre-school. While researching the history of these buildings, I discovered that the church, the parish hall and two neighbouring houses are due to be demolished soon to make way for residential flats and a new childcare centre.
What a pretty Anglican church, and it is so sad that it is going to be demolished. Such a lovely part of our church history about to leave us. Your picture is so nice...framed perfectly. genie

A very late comment! In the 1950s and 1960s this was my grandmother's church with Rev'd Ironside as its rector. A very fitting name I might say. To me it would be a strange corner block to have apartments in it. I guess the rectory would also be demolished to make way for the apartments I must look on Google Earth! The Avenue is the street directly across from this corner. Thank you for posting this on your blog. My current diocesan bishop, Bp Stuart Robinson is going to St Michael's Vaucluse. I wonder if this is in his parish area or if it is a Bondi parish now.
