Sydenham, park

Sydenham Green was established as urban parkland in 1999, in the inner west suburb of Sydenham. It was developed in consultation with local residents as a cultural and recreational landscape, with the aim of bringing new life to the suburb. The site became available through acquisition of aircraft noise affected homes. This map located at the entrance of the park, illustrates the former neighbourhood plan.

  1. We have an area here where the people constantly complain about the airport noise. The strange thing is that the airport (and noise) was there before the houses. I like your city's solution to turn the area into a park.

  12. It reminds me of the illustrations in 'My place' by Donna Rowlands. Funny it is set near Sydenham as well!

  13. Nice that they commemorated what was there before the park. As I scrolled back throuhg some of your recent posts I ws struck by two things: first, how neat and clean the Sydney area is, and second the skies are always nice.

  14. A creative way to use space that's too noisy to actually live in.
