Double Bay, council chambers

This historic building is the headquarters for Woollahra Municipal Council, located on New South Head Road, in the eastern suburb of Double Bay. This building was Redleaf, a Victorian Italianate mansion overlooking Sydney Harbour, designed by the architect George Allen Mansfield and completed in 1863It became the local government council chambers in 1947. The adjoining Redleaf Pool is named after the mansion.

  2. Redleaf is an amazing building, both in its Italianate design and its great location overlooking the harbour. They certainly knew what they were doing in 1863!

  3. What a lovely building. We have similar style architecture in some of the homes in our area. Very nice. Stately.

  4. It's a lovely looking building, so much nicer than our local city hall, a real 1970's monstrosity...

  5. Beautiful old building Jim, that's rather a modern pair of benches out front!

  6. PerthDailyPhoto, those are actually skylights and vents for the underground car park that has been built more recently but their clever design has them doubling up as benches.

  7. A grand building which has proudly walked through time with elegance! Delightful shadowy verandah in contrast with the upper levels of the building!

  8. The words that come to mind Jim are sturdy and stately -hopefully the decisions made in these elegant surrounds are all of the wise variety.

  11. The shadows within the windows beckon me...

A SHADOW THE SIZE OF THE SUN

If I had a shadow the size of the sun,
I’m not sure how fast I’d be able to run,
Or if I could flee from its ravenous jaws,
While keeping away from its razor-sharp claws!

  20. This building looks impressive. Many modern council chambers aren't as attractive as this one.
