Newtown, court house

The Newtown Court House is located along Australia Street, in the inner city suburb of Newtown. It was designed by Colonial Architect James Barnet and built in 1885, in the Victorian Italianate architectural style and is still in use today as a local court.

  5. The architectural style of the Newtown Court House looks older than 1885, so I wonder if it was copying an earlier version of a building on the site. Mind you, they have kept it in superb condition 127 years later!

  7. Such a dramatic building. Interesting how the top floor is so much taller than the ground floor.
