The Rocks, telephone box

This heritage telephone box is located along George Street, in The Rocks. These red Temperate Style public phone boxes were installed until the 1980s by the Post Master General and later Telecom Australia. There aren't many of these remaining in operation apart from some in historical precincts such as The Rocks.

  3. That's cool. Some places here in England still have them, and apparently the phones actually work too. Don't know if you send a text though.

  10. Aren't they wonderful. I remember seeing them on many a corner. Hardly a telephone booth of any sort in sight today.

  11. Technology ushered in the cell phone and spelled the demise of the phone booth. They are mostly collectible antiques these days. This one certainly has the character to be in someone's collection. Happy Ruby Tuesday.

  13. What a great choice to beautifully meet the criteria for two blog memes! Our telephone booths in Canada are not so lovely to look at, but just as difficult to find these days.

  15. I miss the old public telephone boxes. They, and the large letter boxes, were a bit of a landmark throughout the suburbs.
