This heritage telephone box is located along George Street, in The Rocks. These red Temperate Style public phone boxes were installed until the 1980s by the Post Master General and later Telecom Australia. There aren't many of these remaining in operation apart from some in historical precincts such as The Rocks.
Phone booths - wonder if my kids know what these are for.
ReplyDeleteI guess they've gone the way of the dodo bird now. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteThat's cool. Some places here in England still have them, and apparently the phones actually work too. Don't know if you send a text though.
ReplyDeleteYou have to look hard for them here in Seattle! Cool shot, Jim! Hope you have a good week!

Aren't they wonderful. I remember seeing them on many a corner. Hardly a telephone booth of any sort in sight today.
ReplyDeleteWonderful one!
ReplyDeleteTechnology ushered in the cell phone and spelled the demise of the phone booth. They are mostly collectible antiques these days. This one certainly has the character to be in someone's collection. Happy Ruby Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteGreat capture!

I wonder what Superman would do in the cell phone age ;)
What a great choice to beautifully meet the criteria for two blog memes! Our telephone booths in Canada are not so lovely to look at, but just as difficult to find these days.
ReplyDeleteI love it!! Too bad they are no longer around much.
ReplyDeleteI miss the old public telephone boxes. They, and the large letter boxes, were a bit of a landmark throughout the suburbs.
ReplyDeleteA great capture! I still get nostalgic for the old red phone booths I grew up with...:)
