Rookwood, creek

This small creek runs through the Catholic section of Rookwood Necropolis, in the western suburb of Rookwood. This part of the cemetery features some new landscaping, monuments and bridges.

  1. I do not know but water makes the place more attractive. This creek is fascinating I can imagine endless ways on what flowers to make the side or edging colorful, like it! Thanks for joining

  4. Lovely photo. I'm surprised by the term "Catholic Section" though. Are Catholic's a minority in your country? Or do they just like to cluster around the local church.

  6. Rita, on the contrary. Catholics are actually the biggest religious denomination in Australia now. The biggest had been Anglicans until recent years. Rookwood Necropolis is the biggest multicultural cemetery in the southern hemisphere and is divided into denominational and operational areas, so there are sections such as Catholic, Anglican, Orthodox, Jewish, Chinese, Muslim, Hindu etc.

  8. Pretty little creek...I had to stop and think for a minute about what the word 'necropolis' means -- as the picture didn't immediately call to mind a cemetery -- it lookos a very peaceful place.

  12. It all looks very new and very soul-less ... oops ... you know what I mean.

You have probably wandered the Serpentine over the other side of Rookwood. I want to do a post about it, but have not sufficient (good) shots as yet.

I rarely go over to the modern parts of Rookwood. Too many good stories over the heritage areas.
