Rookwood, sculpture

This monument featuring a sculpture of two young children on a sandstone plinth stands in the Rookwood Necropolis, in the western suburb of Rookwood.

  1. Always sad to see graves and monuments for young children in cemeteriesm, Jim. Even if it's just decorative sculpture of little angels, it makes me think of young lives cut short. Nice shot.

  2. Nick, it is sad and perhaps indicative of the era it was installed. If they were doing this sort of monument today it would most likely be something more abstract.

  6. The children seem so small on such a tall pedestal! But notably, children are rarely alone! They seem to be with another child on such features! A sad, beautiful monument!

  11. Ah, so where is this plinth? Love that word.

Is it just off Necropolis Drive toward the cafe from the roundabout? About Section 3, Old Anglican? It is a very beautiful pedestal, but my guess, is not made to order.

Great stuff, Jim. We could traipse this cemetery for the rest of our days, and never run out of camera-fodder.

  12. Fascinating memorial Jim and as you say, of a certain era. From Julie's comment, sounds like an interesting cemetery to visit with the camera.
