The Tamarama Surf Life Saving Club sits on the cliff above Tamarama Beach, in the eastern suburb of Tamarama. The club was one of the first surf life saving clubs established in Australia in 1906. This club house was built in 1939 to replace the original wooden building which was destroyed by fire. The Surf Club Project involves a paint company and local tradesmen painting every surf club in Australia. The project was kicked off at Tamarama in 2011. Original colours are used and the iconic sign writing was also reproduced.
What a great idea. I love this place and who can knock a "Life Saving" Club!

ReplyDeleteDon't tell me you were out there too last Sunday..
ReplyDeleteJo, I was actually out there on Monday because I had a day off work. Had my first swim of the season. :)
DeleteThat is a fine sign.
ReplyDeleteThat is an interesting sign. Love the colors and the effect.
ReplyDeleteLove the colours and the shadowing effect in the lettering!
ReplyDeleteThe blue sky, the blue trim, the blue sign, the blue doors and the blue bench! Is that by chance the blue ocean I see through the bars on the far right? Nice! I love all your photo compositions.
ReplyDeleteLeslie, yes indeed. That is the Pacific Ocean you can see on the far right.
DeleteHey, I just realized it's my birthday already in Australia! Happy birthday to me!(still have four hours to go before it happens here:))
ReplyDeleteI like how the colors, patterns, and arrangement all come together !
ReplyDeleteSomeone with an eye for complimentary colours painted this building.
ReplyDeleteAh ... Glamarama!
ReplyDeleteAnd there were quite a few glamours on the beach on this day. ;)
DeleteSuch a good project.
ReplyDeleteI can see from the sign that Tamarama Surf Life Saving Club was established in 1906. But the actual building itself looks more modern. Was it built or renovated in the 1930s or post-war?
ReplyDeleteHels, I just found some info about it being built in 1939. I'll add it to the post.
DeleteThe blue shadowed font stands out beautifully from the more neutral tone of the wall! Impressive sign!
