Erskineville, Our Lady of Perpetual Succour

St Marys Catholic Church is located along Swanson Street, in the inner city suburb of Erskineville. Also known as Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, this heritage listed building was designed by J. McCarthy and built in 1912 in the Federation Arts and Crafts architectural style.

  1. Ahhh Jim, I love seeing your photos. This is an intersting architectural style but difficult to analyse, I think. Have you seen Federation Arts and Crafts in Sydney before.

    1. Yes, there are a examples of that style around. I believe I have featured a few buildings in that style.

  8. There was an Arts and Crafts style architectural movement in the U.S. in that same period. Many older homes in Berkeley and Oakland, California are built in the Arts and Crafts style, but «Louis» doesn't recall any churches that were built in this style in the San Francisco Bay Area.

«Louis» posted Stanford Memorial Church from the same era, but it is built in a different style.
