The Rocks, George Street

A view of George Street, looking past the historic shopfronts, hotels and postbox at The Rocks, towards the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The Museum of Contemporary Art is on the right, beside the police station.

  8. Hi Jim,

do you know why The Museum of Contemporary Art was placed in the oldest part of Sydney? Did it go into an old building, re-purposed for the arts? Or was a brand new building built?

    1. Yes, the Museum of Contemporary Art has been in the art deco, former Maritime Services Board Building since 1991. The part that can be seen in this photo is the extension that was built in 2012.
