This former Presbyterian Church is located in Kensington Street, in the southern suburb of Kogarah. It was built around 1890 in the Victorian Gothic architectural style. It became a church hall when a new Soldiers' Memorial Presbyterian Church was built next to it in 1928. When Kirkplace opened in the office building behind it in 2009, the church became a medical centre and the hall was converted for use by a physiotherapy and sports clinic.

That is a cute little former church building, but it is dwarfed by its surrounds. Hydrotherapy sounds pleasant.

This is kind of sad, isn't it? We can guess at how it might have looked when it was a small local church. But, the neighborhood has changed, and the building has been compelled to change along with it. Progress?
ReplyDeleteYes, the neighbourhood certainly has changed. Being close to a railway station and opposite a regional public hospital, it's now a growing commercial area with a lot of medical centres.

ReplyDeleteI agree! It's an interesting use for a church but at the very least it's amking full use of the historial buildings in Sydney to give them a new lease of life. So for that I guess I'm buying into the idea.
