Kogarah, Soldiers' Memorial Presbyterian Church

The Soldiers' Memorial Presbyterian Church is located on the corner of Derby Street and Kensington Street, in the southern suburb of Kogarah. This heritage listed building was built in 1928 in the Inter War architectural style. It replaced the adjacent Presbyterian Church which was built around 1890 and then became the church hall. When Kirkplace opened in the office building beside it in 2009, the church building became a medical centre.

  1. Since the World War One bodies were not allowed to be repatriated to Britain, Australia, New Zealand etc., they had to be buried in France or Belgium or wherever they died. So where did Australian parents and widows go to pay their respects? Without a graveside, I think Soldiers' Memorial Church offered the parents and widows a very respectful place to remember their lads.

  2. Two very different styles of architecture side by side. The church has a real charm about it.

The architecture of this church is similar to some in my area.

  7. very nice, sometimes even though these brick buildings are beautiful, they are a tiny bit severe...doesn't distract from their beauty though.
