Woolloomooloo, Tilbury Hotel
The Tilbury Hotel is located along Nicholson Street, in the inner city suburb of Woolloomooloo. This heritage listed pub was designed by architects Copeman and Lemont and built in 1921 in the Inter-War Free Classical architectural style.
Quite an old pub this is! I would love to try some beer there :)

ReplyDeleteGerald, agreed. I loved the late Victorian pubs that were so light and elegant, the wrought iron lace work might have floated off the veranda. This pub looks more ponderous.

Yes, it's a very traditional looking pub and the outdoor seating is very popular on a sunny day as it was yesterday.
DeleteThe awning looks so heavy. But I like the white top of the building with that blue sky.
ReplyDeleteI have noticed that we do have quite large awnings on our buildings compared to the rest of the world but they do provide good cover for the harsh sun and rain. They also provide larger space on the facade for signs to advertise the business and can contain wiring for lights, signage and cameras.
DeleteIt's nice to see historic buildings in another country and appreciate the different architectures of their history still in tact. This beautiful building looks like a mix of old and new..I especially love how the white top compliments the brick. I learned a little more about Sidney today thanks to you!

ReplyDeleteHi, Just recently I had a coffee in this pub and it is absolutely beautiful inside. It is a mixture of modern and traditional inside with a working fire place. It is very classy. I highly recommend a visit.
