Sydney Mint Museum

The Sydney Mint Museum is located on Macquarie Street, Sydney. This heritage listed building was built in the Georgian architectural style between 1811 and 1816 as the southern wing of the Sydney Hospital, then known as the Rum Hospital. A mint was established in 1854 on the site with this building used for administration, storage and accommodation for the Mint Master and mint staff, with the actual manufacture of coins in a group of buildings to the rear. Since 1979 it has housed a museum, library, cafe and the head office of Sydney Living Museums.

  2. It certainly has a governmental style in a kind of tropical outfit.

  3. Beautiful building! The architecture reminds me of the fancy buildings the Spanish built in the late 18th/early19th century in California.
