This bronze sculpture of Governor Lachlan Macquarie stands in the garden of the Sydney Mint Museum, along Macquarie Street. It was created by John Dowie in 1973 and donated in 1998 for the forecourt of Parliament House. It was moved down the street to this location in 2011 when a new security gate house was built in front of Parliament House.
Jim, he's quite a dapper looking fellow!
ReplyDeleteHe reminds me of Kirk Douglas...LOL!...:)JP
ReplyDeleteLooks quite regal in that pose.
ReplyDeleteA regal looking gentleman indeed!! Great capture for the day, Jim, as always! Have a great week!!
ReplyDeleteHe does look regal and proud! Great photo!
ReplyDeleteIt's a great sculpture Jim. I think we have some of John Dowie's works here in Adelaide.
ReplyDeleteI reckon this is a better statue of him than the one in Hyde Park at the top of Macquarie Street, Jim.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Julie. There's something odd about the newer one at Hyde Park.
DeleteQuite sculpture and wonderful photography!
ReplyDeleteHappy Week to you,
artmusedog and carol
Quite distinctive looking, Jim!
ReplyDeleteNice piece of work. At least, they moved him to a shady spot.
ReplyDeletePoor old Governor Lachlan Macquarie. He did a pretty good job in a tough environment, and was doomed to get into trouble with his political masters in London. But think about the great public works that lasted. Good work, Macquarie!!!
ReplyDeleteVery regal.
ReplyDeleteHe still looks like he is searching for something Jim.
ReplyDeleteNice shot.
ReplyDeleteMacquarie looks more at peace in a garden rather than near austere gates. He seems to have a visionary pose here. Lovely scene.
ReplyDeleteHe looks pretty happy here. Maybe the shade helps.
