Sydney Mint Museum, Governor Lachlan Macquarie

This bronze sculpture of Governor Lachlan Macquarie stands in the garden of the Sydney Mint Museum, along Macquarie Street. It was created by John Dowie in 1973 and donated in 1998 for the forecourt of Parliament House. It was moved down the street to this location in 2011 when a new security gate house was built in front of Parliament House.

  3. It's a great sculpture Jim. I think we have some of John Dowie's works here in Adelaide.

  4. I reckon this is a better statue of him than the one in Hyde Park at the top of Macquarie Street, Jim.

    1. I agree, Julie. There's something odd about the newer one at Hyde Park.

  6. Nice piece of work. At least, they moved him to a shady spot.

  7. Poor old Governor Lachlan Macquarie. He did a pretty good job in a tough environment, and was doomed to get into trouble with his political masters in London. But think about the great public works that lasted. Good work, Macquarie!!!

  9. Macquarie looks more at peace in a garden rather than near austere gates. He seems to have a visionary pose here. Lovely scene.
