Pioneers’ Memorial Park is located along the Hume Highway, between Campbell Street and Macquarie Street, in the south western suburb of Liverpool. This was originally the site of the cemetery of St Luke's Anglican Church. In 1970, the cemetery was converted into a rest park, featuring original headstones and a memorial wall.
A very quiet park...

Nicely serene.
ReplyDeletePeaceful ... A nice way to remember where more people will see the stones!
ReplyDeleteThose old monuments are awesome. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes! Peaceful it is indeed and I do agree with Sallie, a lovely way to remember and where more people will be able to see the stones! Great post for the day, Jim! Hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThe headstones almost look like a chess set, ready for action. Nicely captured.
ReplyDeleteThe head stones are very nice. I agree with DrillerAA09's comment.
ReplyDeleteWorth a Thousand Words
I am so glad that the memorial component of the Rest Park was retained. The original headstones and, importantly, a memorial wall.
ReplyDeleteI get around. ;)
ReplyDeleteMay they all Rest in Peace.
ReplyDeleteJim, would you please explain "Rest Park."
ReplyDeleteTom, rest parks are often created when most or all the graves are removed from a cemetery and headstones and monuments are collected and displayed for visitors. In other cases, a new park is created for all the important headstones and monuments to be kept and the old grave sites can be reused, after 99 years.
DeleteThat's a different concept for a park...

I think it's a little funny to be taking the Sydney cemetery and turning it into a park. I mean, I don't want to be thinking about walking on top of the remains of people…
ReplyDeleteI love the old cemeteries.
