The Rocks, Quay Chambers
Quay Chambers is a heritage listed building located along George Street at The Rocks. It was built as a commercial building in 1913 in the Federation architectural style. In 1988, a large commercial building called the Duty Free Store Galleria was erected behind it with the shopfront facade and building incorporated into the complex.
How clever to retain the facade of the building for the new structure.

How nice that each building has a different design from the next one.
ReplyDeleteIt breaks my heart when colonial/Victorian/Edwardian buildings are destroyed. So at least when the shopfront facade has been protected and preserved, we get a sense of what the streetscape must have looked like in 1913.
