Paddington, terrace houses

These sandstone terrace houses are located along Glenmore Road, in the inner city suburb of Paddington. They were built in 1873 in the Victorian architectural style. The one on the right is known as Manvail Castle.

Paddington, street art

This artwork is on the wall of a boutique in Hopewell Lane, off Glenmore Road, in the inner city suburb of Paddington. It has been cleverly painted to look like the life-sized figure is leaning against the real "no parking" sign on the footpath.

Pyrmont, Sydney Fish Market

Sydney Fish Market is located on the shore of Blackwattle Bay, in the inner city suburb of Pyrmont. Sydney Fish Market is the largest market of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and the third largest seafood market in terms of variety in the world. The fish markets were originally part of the Haymarket fish market but moved to this site in 1966.

Ultimo, University of Technology Sydney, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology

The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT), also known as Building 11 at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), is located along Broadway, in the inner city suburb of Ultimo. It was designed by Denton Corker Marshall and built in 2014. It features aluminium screens that spell out "University of Technology Sydney Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology" in binary code.

The Rocks, Susannah Place Museum

Susannah Place Museum is located along Gloucester Street, on the corner of Cumberland Place at The Rocks. This view is from the rear entrance along Cambridge Street. Susannah Place is a terrace of four houses built by Irish immigrants in 1844 and includes a recreated corner shop which is at the top of the stairs. The heritage listed museum allows visitors to experience how families lived, worked and played in the past.

Rookwood, monument

Rookwood Necropolis is the largest multicultural cemetery in the southern hemisphere. Rookwood General Cemeteries Reserve Trust is the custodian of this site, uniting the former Anglican, General, Independent, Jewish and Muslim Trusts, to provide burial and commemoration services to over 90 culturally diverse communities. This is the Islamic Monument.

Abbotsford, canal

This canal is located near historic Abbotsford House, a heritage listed house which gave its name to the inner west suburb of Abbotsford,. In 1920 the estate became the site of a NestlĂ© chocolate factory, with the house used initially for chocolate production and later as their administrative offices. The factory was closed in 1991 and the estate was redeveloped with medium-density residential apartments known as Abbotsford Cove,.

Circular Quay, Overseas Passenger Terminal

A view of the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay, where many cruise ships dock in Sydney Harbour, viewed from the roundabout at the end of Circular Quay Way. The tower is a great vantage point for viewing the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House. It was originally built in 1960 and was redesigned and refurbished in 1988.

Dolls Point, Lady Robinsons Beach, Botany Bay

These remnants of Dolls Point tidal bath and wharf with the nets removed after shifting sands silted it up are at Lady Robinsons Beach on the shore of Botany Bay in the southern suburb of Dolls Point. The Norfolk Island Pine tree, which is native to Norfolk Island, stands on the edge of Cook Park.

Chinatown, The Pentatonic Rooster

The Pentatonic Rooster is a sculpture installed along the Dixon Street pedestrian mall in Chinatown, in the inner city suburb of Haymarket. It is inspired by traditional Chinese instruments and the five-note pentatonic musical scale. The body is a gong, the head is a cymbal, the wattle a bell, the beak and legs are flutes, the feet are piccolos and panpipes form the comb. It was created by artist Tianli Zu for the Chinese New Year Festival, who also collaborated with her composer son Andrew Zhou to compose music for this artwork. In the Chinese zodiac, every year is symbolised by an animal and this year is the Year of the Rooster.

Surry Hills, Church of Christ Jesus

The Church of Christ Jesus is located on the corner of Chalmers Street and Bedford Street, in the inner city suburb of Surry Hills. This heritage listed church was originally built in 1856 as the Welsh Presbyterian Church in the Victorian Gothic architectural style. The Church of Christ Jesus has its origins in Indonesia known as Gereja Kristus Yesus.

First Fleet Park, Lunar Lanterns, Monkey

Lunar Lanterns have been installed around Circular Quay to celebrate the Chinese New Year Festival. In the Chinese zodiac, every year is symbolised by an animal and this year is the Year of the Rooster. These Monkey lanterns are located in First Fleet Park, posing as the three wise monkeys who see no evil, speak no evil and hear no evil, looking towards the pencil, which is mightier than the sword. These five metre tall lanterns were created by Laurens Tan and last year were part of a larger display at the Opera House, perched on top of a gigantic pencil. The Zodiac symbol of the Monkey can be characterised as quick-witted, charming and lucky. The adaptable Monkey livens up an occasion.

Sydney Harbour Bridge, Lunar Lanterns, Rabbit

Lunar Lanterns have been installed around Circular Quay to celebrate the Chinese New Year Festival. In the Chinese zodiac, every year is symbolised by an animal and this year is the Year of the Rooster. These Rabbit lanterns performing Tai Chi are located in Hickson Road Reserve close to the southern pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Last year they were part of a larger display in Customs House Square, created by Claudia Chan Shaw who is also the festival curator as well as author, fashion designer and television host. The Zodiac symbol of the Rabbit can be characterised as trustworthy, empathetic and friendly. The Rabbit is sociable, relishing in the company of others.

Customs House Square, Lunar Lanterns, Rat

Lunar Lanterns have been installed around Circular Quay to celebrate the Chinese New Year Festival. In the Chinese zodiac, every year is symbolised by an animal and this year is the Year of the Rooster. Many of the lanterns were seen around the city last year but some of them have been changed this year. This Rat lantern has been installed in Customs House Square, in front of Customs House. The six metre high by lantern was created by Guo Jian and is inspired by his experience of moving to Australia and being embraced and supported by the Sydney LGBTI community. The Zodiac symbol of the Rat can be characterised as intelligent, adaptable and social. The quick-witted Rat cannot let an opportunity to prosper pass them by. The Chinese characters symbolise "Love".

Circular Quay, Lunar Lanterns, Sheep

Lunar Lanterns have been installed around Circular Quay to celebrate the Chinese New Year Festival. In the Chinese zodiac, every year is symbolised by an animal and this year is the Year of the Rooster. Many of the lanterns were seen around the city last year but some them have been changed this year. The Sheep lantern has been installed along the foreshore of Sydney Harbour at East Circular Quay. The Norwegian Star cruise ship can be seen  in the background at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, near the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It was originally designed by Raymond Leung, with current design by Alexandra Sommer and Brad Clark. The Zodiac symbol of the Sheep can be characterised as tasteful, warm and intuitive. The sensitive Sheep offers a quiet life of creativity and compassion.

Sydney Opera House, Lunar Lanterns, Rooster


Lunar Lanterns have been installed around Circular Quay to celebrate the Chinese New Year Festival. In the Chinese zodiac, every year is symbolised by an animal and this year is the Year of the Rooster. The forecourt of the Sydney Opera House features these lanterns of two roosters engaged in a dancing fight, symbolising their strength and courage in opposing the adversity of the coming year. These eight metre tall sculptures with vibrant colours featured throughout their feathers were created by amigo and amigo, co-founded by Simone Chua and Renzo B. Larriviere. The Zodiac symbol of the Rooster is honest, energetic and intelligent. The flamboyant Rooster is confident and is not afraid of hard work.

Centennial Park, Woollahra Reservoir, mural


Woollahra Reservoir is located along Oxford Street, in the eastern suburb of Centennial Park. After being repeatedly hit by graffiti vandals, the walls of the reservoir were painted with murals in 2015 by street artist Mike Watt. They feature images of foliage found in Centennial Park.

Sans Souci, Kogarah Bay

This view of a small reserve with a walkway leading down to Kogarah Bay, is from The Promenade, in the southern suburb of Sans Souci. The suburb took its name from a grand house built on Rocky Point Road by Thomas Holt, a wool merchant and politician, for his German wife. It was named after Sanssouci in Potsdam, Germany, the summer palace of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia.

Museum Railway Station


Museum railway station is located underneath the southern end of Hyde Park and named after the nearby Australian Museum. It is served by the T2 Airport, Inner West & South and T3 Bankstown line services. It was designed by John J.C. Bradfield and built in 1926 in the Inter-War Stripped Classical style. It was part of the Eastern City line from Central to St James and became part of the City Circle loop in 1956. The pedestrian tunnels feature a photo history of this station and the platforms feature various period advertisements such as this one for David Jones department store.
