Queen Victoria Building, sculptures
These domes and sculptures stand above the York Street entrance of the Queen Victoria Building, which houses retail shops, cafés, and restaurants. The Queen Victoria Building was designed by George McRae and completed in 1898 in the Romanesque architectural style and restored in 1986. The sculptures, created by William Priestly MacIntosh and installed in 1899, are: a male figure male figure representing Union with symbols of a United Australia, a female figure representing Peace with symbols of Literature and Science and a female figure representing Plenty holding the Cornucopia and showing symbols of the attendant Arts The sculptures above the George Street entrance can be seen here.
