The Myer Department Store is bounded by George Street, Market Street and Pitt Street. The heritage listed group of seven buildings includes this building on the corner of Market Street and Pitt Street. This Pitt-Market building is the oldest building in the group, while the original "Farmer & Co" Department Store was built along George Street in 1930. In 1976 the name of the store was changed to Myer but in 1983 it was acquired by Grace Bros. It was rebranded under the Myer name again in 2004. After a major refurbishment in 1999, the flagship Myer store occupies five levels, above two levels of the Sydney Central Plaza shopping centre, now part of Westfield Sydney. The Swissôtel Sydney and Tower Apartments sit above the development.

You have crossed my mind many times recently with all the fires in your part of the world. Hope they aren't affecting the style of life too much...be safe.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your concern, Anni. We are safe from bushfires in the middle of a big city like Sydney but we are affected by the smoke which drifts in.
DeleteHello, a nice mix of old and new buildings. Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy new week!
ReplyDeleteA terrific view.
ReplyDeleteLove the front building, but not the concrete tower at the back.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I am sad about the fires in your country, although I understand Sydney is safe.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sallie. Just smoke haze here.
DeleteThank you for sharing - Wishing you Well . . .
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing. Loved the post.
ReplyDeleteThe name Grace Bros. reminds me of the old BBC comedy. :-)
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking the same as the previous comment about Grace bros. Your photo has the right mix of the old with the new.
ReplyDeleteIt always gave us a laugh that our actual department store was called Grace Bros as it was in Are You Being Served? :)
