The Coogee Surf Life Saving Club is located on the cliff at the southern end of Coogee Beach, along Beach Street in the eastern suburb of Coogee. The club was founded in 1907 and the art deco design clubhouse was refurbished in 2020 with a controversial alteration to the facade. The Ross Jones Memorial Pool, located below the club, was built in 1947. The National Trust has observed that the pool is significant due to the unique design, which includes concrete piers that extend above the wall resembling turrets at the top of a sandcastle.

ReplyDeleteThe Coogee Surf Life Saving Club looks delightful, so I wonder if it is still basically to save swimmers' lives or as a social centre for club members.
