Zetland, Green Square Plaza

This Christmas Tree is located in the plaza above Green Square Library, which is on the corner of Botany Road and Zetland Avenue, in the inner city suburb of Zetland. The structure behind it is an entrance, stairs and a lift connecting from the underground library to special rooms above ground.

Pitt Street, Sugar House


This heritage listed building was built on the site of Sydney's first sugar exchange, on the corner of Pitt Street and King Street. It was built in 1879 in the Victorian Italianate style as a hotel for Sydney businessman, William Mears. It was first managed by Edward Trickett, a world champion sculler, and known as "Trickett's Hotel", later renamed "Kings Hotel". It was adapted to commercial use after its closure and renamed "Sugar House" with various tenants until it became a Ralph Lauren boutique in 2023. It spans over four floors with a private rooftop and has been lit up in green and red for Christmas.

St Mary's Cathedral, The Lights of Christmas

"The Lights of Christmas" is an annual light projection show on the façade of St Mary's Cathedral, which this year ran from 14th December until Christmas night 25th December. These animated projections featured images for the Christmas carol "The Twelve Days of Christmas" which were accompanied with the tune. They are a partridge in a pear tree, two turtle doves, three french hens, four calling birds, five golden rings, six geese a-laying, seven swans a-swimming, eight maids a-milking, nine ladies dancing, ten lords a-leaping, eleven pipers piping, twelve drummers drumming.

Banksia, payphone


This payphone is located on the corner of Judd Street and Wolli Creek Road, in the southern suburb of Banksia. This Telstra payphone box has been decorated for Christmas with a promotion for the Santa Claus hotline. Children of all ages can make free calls to Santa's Worksop at the North Pole and to tell him what's on your wish list until Christmas Eve. All calls from Telstra public payphones are now free to any landlines or mobile phones in Australia. This campaign has been created to show kids how a payphone works and remind them to use one when it's needed.

George Street, Christmas


Looking north up George Street towards the QVB light rail stop, between The Queen Victoria Building and the Hilton Hotel. The buildings and light poles are decorated with red and green lights, banners and projections for Christmas.

Paddington, Paddington Inn


The Paddington Inn, colloquially known as the Paddo Inn, is located on the corner of corner of Oxford Street and William Street, in the inner city suburb of Paddington. This heritage listed pub was formerly the United Services Hotel. It was built in 1896 and designed in a High Victorian free interpretation of the Classical Revival style. The red baubles are a unique Christmas decoration.

These shops with residences above are located along Oxford Street, in the inner city suburb of Paddington. They were built in the Victorian style and are now home to Sushi Paddo, a Japanese Restaurant and Eyeballs Eyewear, an optometrist.

Pyrmont, war memorial


This war memorial is located in Union Square, on the corner of Harris Street and Miller Street, in the inner city suburb of Pyrmont. The four-sided monument is made of trachyte on a base of sandstone and is topped with a bronze statue of a female figure representing 'peace'. The Pyrmont an Ultimo Great War Memorial was unveiled in 1922.

Cronulla, mural


This fun mural is on the side wall of a shop along Cronulla Street and Purley Place, in the southern suburb of Cronulla. It seems to be an extension of the nearby "Nulla Sea King" mural, which I featured last week. Both were created by street artist Mulga the artist, who is Joel Moore. "Nulla" is short for Cronulla.

Surry Hills, Ibero - American Plaza

The Ibero - American Plaza is located along Chalmers Street, in the inner city suburb of Surry Hills. This site was founded in 1989 to commemorate the contribution of Spanish and Portugese speaking people to Australia. It features a series of 11 busts and 2 statues representing significant historical figures and national heroes donated by nations including Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, Portugal, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Central Chalmers Street, light rail stop

The Central Chalmers Street Light Rail Stop is located along Chalmers Street, between Central Railway Station and the Dental Hospital, in the inner city suburb of Surry Hills. It is part of the CBD and South East Light Rail Service, made up of the L2 Randwick Light Rail line and L3 Kingsford Light Rail line which run from Circular Quay.

Haymarket, Darling Square, Steam Mill Lane

These sculptures suspended above Steam Mill Lane at Darling Square, in the inner city suburb of Haymarket. "Night and Day, Day and Night" are eight large and colourful geometric shapes created by Peta Kruger. At night neon lights flick on inside the shapes to illuminate the shapes, colours and the street below.

World Square, Lunar New Year, Rabbit


This artwork has been installed in the World Square shopping centre for Lunar New Year to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit. It has been an annual tradition to install these sculptures which remain on display for the whole year. These rabbits on a bench have been hiding under stairs, between a couple of automatic teller machines.
