Chipping Norton Lake
Chipping Norton Lake is part of the Georges River, in the south western suburb of Chipping Norton. After farming activities declined in this area, the rich topsoil and underlying sand was mined. The dangerous pits and eroded riverbanks left behind were rehabilitated into parklands in 1977. This view is from Homestead Park and the little sandy foreshore here is called Grand Flaneur Beach. It's unusual to think of this as a beach, considering it is part of the Georges River and being located so far inland, at about 20 kilometres from Botany Bay and the coast.
It's a nice little beach and a beautiful lake!

I guess you take your beaches where you find them. If you don't want to go surfing this looks like a very nice beach.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful lake, so funny that it is called Chipping Norton as that is a village in Oxfordshire, I would have to say with the weeping willows the place is very similar to Henley and Marlow here in the UK. Thanks for sharing:)
ReplyDeleteGreat shot and lovely lake. Living inland, we have many lakes and these "beaches" are common on them . Some of the fresh water beaches are huge and popular resort areas.

ReplyDeleteJane, we have a lot of suburbs, towns and cities in Australia named after places in Britain. Chipping Norton was named after the homestead of an early settler who had been to England to study law at Oxfordshire. So there's the connection. We also have a Sydney suburb called Henley.

I live to a Chipping Norton, too - but the one here doesn't have any lakes or rivers to speak of...
