Greenacre, private school
The Malek Fahd Islamic School is a private school in the western suburb of Greenacre. The mosque (top) features an impressive minaret and dome. The modern school buildings (bottom) also feature some distinctly Middle Eastern architectural designs. Established in 1989, Malek Fahd is now the largest islamic school in Australia with over 1700 students attending its primary school and high school. I'm continuing my series of photos for Harmony Day, which is coming up this Sunday.

Jossie, I thought it was a mosque too but I cannot find any separate information on it. It may be a mosque that is only used by the students. A bit like some Catholic schools have a chapel or church on their grounds that is only used by their school students.
ReplyDeleteImpressive buildings, but I wonder just what the children are taught in such schools. Such a pity Australian children are sent to such places when you have a great education system for all children.

ReplyDeleteLady Fi, I have done some research and am able to confirm that the first building is indeed a mosque, on the grounds of the school. Students from other schools have been invited to the school and were given a tour of the mosque. I have updated my post.

ReplyDeletePicking up on what Glennis wrote, «Louis» worries that the West is committing cultural and religious suicide allowing radical Islam free rein. Perhaps the Islam that is taught there is not radical, but «Louis» doubts it very much. The West is going to "multicultural" itself out of existence.

ReplyDeleteLouis la Vache, the concept of Harmony Day is to celebrate the inclusive nature of Australia and promote the benefits of cultural diversity. There is good and bad in all cultures and there are also many radical people in other religions and interest groups too. The West is made up of many different cultures and through history many of them have been guilty of eradicating parts of other cultures. I think multiculturalism teaches people that differences can be good and usually allows you to take the best of every culture. People fear what they don't understand and through learning about different cultures maybe we can eliminate the fear and radicalism to have a more cohesive and peaceful world.
