The Rocks, Harrington Street, mural
This is one of four murals that have been painted on the underpass of the Cahill Expressway where it crosses Harrington Street, at The Rocks. The award winning murals were created by Geoff Williams in 2011, depicting the city as it was in the past. It is based oh a photo which shows Harrington Street being excavated to its current level. Following the outbreak of the plague in 1900, the State Government seized control of The Rocks and began to straighten and realign the streets, which had evolved without planning from the convict period.
oh, my, what a stunning mural! It seems as if one could feel the texture of the boulders, it is so life-like.

I don't think I have noticed the mural but it is quite recent. Certainly after I stopped being in the city regularly.
