Hyde Park, Frazer Fountain

The Frazer fountain is a sandstone drinking fountain located at the College Street entrance of Hyde Park South. It is one of two Frazer drinking fountains donated to the city by John Frazer MLC, a wealthy businessman and philanthropist. They were designed by Thomas Sapsord in the Gothic architectural style, sculpted by Mittagong sculptor Lawrence Beveridge and installed in 1881. In 1934, the taps and drinking cups were replaced with a bubble fountain in keeping with changing attitudes towards health and hygiene and underwent restoration in 2016.

Redfern, telephone exchange

This telephone exchange is located along Redfern Street, in the inner city suburb of Redfern. This heritage listed building was built in 1913 in the Victorian Italianate architectural style. There had previously been a telephone exchange room operating in the adjacent Redfern post office since 1904. A new six-storey exchange building was erected adjacent to the Post Office facing George Street in 1957 which can be seen in the background. When a third exchange building was built beside it in 1974, this telephone exchange was decommissioned.

Redfern, street art

"Love grows in the 'Fern" is a mural on the side of a terrace house, located on the corner of Lawson Street and Ivy Lane in the inner city suburb of Redfern. "The Fern" is a nickname for Redfern.

St Mary's Cathedral, Archbishop Michael Kelly

This bronze statue of Archbishop Michael Kelly stands beside the stairs leading up to the Cathedral Square entrance of St Mary's Cathedral. It was created by Bertram Mackennal and erected in 1933 to commemorate the 80th birthday of the fourth Roman Catholic Archbishop of Sydney, the completion of the Cathedral and the celebration of the 29th International Eucharistic Conference. It accompanies the statue of Cardinal Patrick Moran.

Drummoyne, ferry wharf

Drummoyne ferry wharf is located at the end of Wolseley Street and Menzies Reserve, in the inner west suburb of  Drummoyne. It is on the southern side of the Parramatta River and is serviced by First Fleet and RiverCat class ferries operating between Circular Quay and Parramatta.

Newtown, shops

This heritage listed building with an octagonal, domed tower is located on the corner of King Street and Brown Street, in the inner city suburb of Newtown. The three-storey commercial and office building was built in 1909 in the Federation architectural style. It originally housed a bootmaker and an undertaker with a florist. It became a furniture warehouse in 1925 and later a college and restaurant. It now houses a convenience store and a Greek take-away shop.

This commercial and residential building is located along Enmore Road, in the inner city suburb of Newtown. It was built in the Victorian architectural style and now houses a Turkish restaurant.

Gladesville Bridge

Looking at Gladesville Bridge from Cambridge Road Reserve in the inner west suburb of Drummoyne. Gladesville Bridge carries Victoria Road over the Parramatta River, to the northwest suburb of Huntleys Point.

Newtown, Bank Hotel

The Bank Hotel is located along King Street, in the inner west suburb of Newtown. This heritage listed pub was originally built in the Victorian architectural style but was altered in the Federation era and then again when its facade was rebuilt in 1934 in the Art Deco architectural style. It has previously also been known as the Masonic Hotel and the Masonic Hall Hotel.

Hyde Park, Sydney Festival, Karaoke Carousel

The Karaoke Carousel is one of the attractions in the Village Sideshow in Hyde Park. It is part of the Sydney Festival, a major arts festival which has run annually in January since it was established in 1977. Karaoke Carousel combines karaoke singing with one of Australia's grandest merry-go-rounds.

Queen's Square, Hyde Park Barracks

'Living Colour' is a summer floral display around the city and inner city suburbs. This floral pyramid is located at Queen's Square, in front of the Hyde Park Barracks Museum. The spires of St Mary's Cathedral can be seen in the distance.

Hyde Park, Sydney Festival

These shipping containers have been repurposed as sign posts for the Sydney Festival Village in Hyde Park. Sydney Festival is a major arts festival which has run in January since it was established in 1977. The Village Sideshow is a fun park filled with bizarre attractions such as the virtual reality Ghost Train, the Karaoke Carousel, the Village Pools, Glitterbox, Temple of Din pinball artworks and 10 Minute Dance Parties.

This commercial building is located along King Street, in the inner city suburb of Newtown. This heritage listed commercial and residential building was built in 1887 in the Victorian Classical architectural style. It was originally owned by Mary Bergin, the grocer.

Balmain, City Light Church

Consolation Hall is located along Darling Street in the inner west suburb of Balmain. The building has been used by Balmain City Light Church since 2012.

Department of Health

The former Department of Health building is located along Macquarie Street but viewed from the side in Albert Street. It now houses "The Bar", which is part of the "Sir Stamford at Circular Quay Hotel". This heritage listed building was designed by Walter Liberty Vernon and built in 1898 in the Federation Free architectural style. It had also been known as the Health Board Offices and Hospital Admissions Depot.

Balmain, Co-Op Society

The Balmain Co-Op Society is located on the corner of Montague Street and Little Llewellyn Street, in the inner west suburb of Balmain. This heritage listed building was built in 1912 in the Federation Free Classical architectural style. The building is associated with the working class co-operative, a self help by skilled workers who formed it to keep prices down on everyday commodities.

Balmain, Temperance Hall

The Balmain Temperance Hall is located on the corner of Montague Street and Llewellyn Street, in the inner west suburb of Balmain. It was built in 1880 when these types of halls were built as part of the Temperance movement in Australia, which promoted the abstinence and moderation of alcohol, as an alternative to pubs and hotels.

Rozelle, Smith’s Hall

"Smith's Hall" is located along Denison Street between Burt Road and Alfred Street, in the inner west suburb of Rozelle. This heritage listed building opposite Easton Park, was built as a dance hall in 1908 in the Federation architectural style. It was converted into four dwellings in 2000 and is now used as a residential guest house.

Rozelle, mural

This mural is on the front of a warehouse along Mullens Street, in the inner west suburb of Rozelle. This warehouse also features another mural, "Brick By Brick" which I featured a few years ago.

Redfern, statue

This statue is located in the grounds of St Vincents de Paul Catholic Church, in the inner city suburb of Redfern. It depicts "Mum Shirl", Colleen Shirley Perry, a powerful advocate for Aboriginal rights and welfare. She assisted in establishing the Aboriginal Medical and Legal Service in Redfern in the 1970s, visited prisoners in prison, opened her home to help the addicted and homeless and helped raise over 60 children.

Double Bay, wharf

This ferry has stopped at the Double Bay ferry wharf, located beside the Double Bay Sailing Club along Sydney Harbour, in the eastern suburb of Double Bay. The Friendship is a First Fleet Class ferry which is part of the fleet that operates on the Inner Harbour. It was named Friendship, after the one of eleven ships of the First Fleet that sailed to Australia in 1787.

World Square, World Tower

A view of World Tower, a skyscraper located along Liverpool Street at World Square, viewed from the Hordern Arcade. World Tower is the tallest residential building in Sydney with 75 storeys above ground and 10 storeys below.

These signs and flower bed are located just inside the Paddington Gates entrance to Centennial Park on the corner Oxford Street and Lang Road, providing access from the eastern suburb of Paddington.

These commercial and residential buildings are located along New South Head Road, near the corner of Bellevue Street, in the eastern suburb of Double Bay. These mixed use building featuring shops and flats were built in the Art Deco and Inter War architectural styles.

Circular Quay, walkway (Theme Day: Photo of the Year)

A view of the walkway along the western side of Circular Quay, beside First Fleet Park at The Rocks. A cruise ship is moored at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in front of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and a whale watching cruise boat has just departed from the Circular Quay ferry wharves. The view is from the walkway beside Cahill Expressway above Circular Quay railway station.The photos I posted of this  walkway in the past year were my favourites and were also the most popular with readers so I've posted another one here today.
